Organised by the Guardian and the Royal Photographic Society (RPS), the bursary offers £2,000 to spend on a photographic essay documenting an ‘overseas social documentary issue’.
The bursary is open to all, with no restriction on age or qualification, according to the Guardian.
Applicants should submit six images that show their abilities as a photographer, plus a written proposal for the photographic essay.
The bursary is named after Joan Wakelin, a photojournalist who died in 2003 aged 75. She specialised in b&w portraiture and, in 1992, was made an honorary fellow of the RPS.
The closing date is 31 July and shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview on 17 August.
The winner will be announced at the RPS awards on 6 September.
