Photographer Steve Young has won the British Wildlife Photography Awards with a picture of a defiant herring gull.
Young beat thousands to the £5,000 cash prize with a photo described by judges as ?unique and striking?.
Tom Hind from Getty Images, one of the judges, added: ?I like the defiance in this shot ? the gull?s refusal to be moved in the face of this crashing wave seems to sum up a peculiarly British stoicism.’
Meanwhile, 14-year-old Adam Hawtin won the Young British Wildlife Photographer title.
