A British photographer has set off on a somewhat unusual assignment? to record the highest ever game of cricket.
Press Association photographer Will Wintercross is accompanying a 50-strong group of cricket-lovers who plan to stage a full-scale game of Twenty20 at Gorak Shep, which lies more than 5000m above sea level, at Everest base camp.
Will – who is the only press photographer covering the event – said before he left: ‘This is my ideal job, mixing two passions – photography and mountaineering.
‘I’ve been training for the past eight months and can’t wait to document the team’s effort. I’ll be shooting the trek up to the plateau and then the match itself. It will be an incredible setting and I’m just hoping for good weather.’
The group, which is made up of around 50 members of the public, also plan to prepare a ‘cricket tea’, complete with cucumber sandwiches.
They hope to raise £250,000 for charity and play the match itself in a few days time.
