Corel has defended rules that give the software maker the right to use competition entries for a host of future purposes, including advertising.

The international contest challenges photography enthusiasts to enter a photo and then use Corel?s latest Paint Shop Pro imaging software to edit the image before submitting before and after versions by email.
Defending its competition rules, a Corel spokeswoman told us: ?The terms and conditions for this competition are standard, with a section about having rights to use the image as Corel would like in order to highlight the winning images on the Corel website, for example.?
Photographers can apply effects such as redeye reduction and teeth whitening and wrinkle removal to their images before submission.
Prizes include a Sony Alpha 300 digital SLR.
