The photographer who had two rolls of film seized by Humberside Police while taking pictures in Hull before Christmas says they have now been returned.

Steve Carroll is still awaiting the result of a police investigation after officers seized the 35mm films, accusing him of obtaining photographs of possibly sensitive material in Hull city centre.

Carroll said that the officers objected to him photographing ‘sensitive buildings’, one later adding that people had been anxious about his use of the camera, a Voigtländer Bessa R4A that he had bought just days before.

Carroll told the officers he was entitled to take pictures in a public place.

The photo enthusiast, who lives in Kent, was making his first attempt at ‘street photography’ while visiting relatives in Hull on 1 December.

A spokeswoman for the force today told us that the photographer?s complaints are still being investigated.
