The earliest known portrait of photographic pioneer Julia Margaret Cameron ? a daguerreotype by an unknown photographer ? has been saved for the nation.
The 1845 image has been donated to the National Media Museum following talks with the Cameron family brokered by UK charity The Art Fund.
?The artistically posed daguerreotype? shows Julia Margaret Cameron aged 29 – almost 20 years before her own photographic career began – with her daughter Julia, aged 7, on her knee,? said a museum spokesman. ?This is the same daughter who would grow up to buy that first camera for her mother 20 years later.?
The National Media Museum has pledged to look after the historic image for the nation.
It will go on show from today at the museum?s base in Bradford, West Yorkshire.
