Digital camera makers have hit back at an ethical group?s claim that they ?fail miserably to report on working conditions? at supplier factories in East Asia.
Published by the Ethical Consumer Research Association (ECRA), the report accused the industry of failing to provide a ?clear code of conduct setting minimum standards for working conditions?.
The criticism ? which appeared in Ethical Consumer magazine at the end of last year – concluded that none of the 14 brands it researched offered consumers ?meaningful assurances over working conditions in their supply chains?. The group
says it extracts most of its information from previously published sources.
Workers? rights was one of 19 categories the group explored to calculate its ?Ethiscore? ratings. However, the ECRA?s research found no criticisms with regard to the category of workers? rights for many manufacturers that it names in its report.
