Exclusive: NMPFT to change its name

The National Museum of Photography, Film and Television (NMPFT) is preparing to change its name as part of plans to expand its remit, AP has learnt.

However, a spokesman for the NMPFT – which is based in Bradford, West Yorkshire ? would neither confirm or deny a suggestion by a well-placed industry source that it is to be called the National Media Museum.

NMPFT spokesman Dean Loughran said: ?During the process of exploring the potential to expand our remit it has become clear that our present name does not allow us to be as broad as we might like to be in future – but no final decisions have yet been made.?

He added: ?We will be undertaking a wide ranging consultancy process before making any future announcements.?

Loughran insisted that the museum will remain ‘absolutely committed’ to its core subjects of photography, film and television, as well as its Bradford base.
