Priced around £600, and due out in September, the ‘pocket-sized’ E-mount model carries a 16.1-million-pixel APS-C size imaging sensor and a 180° tiltable screen.
The NEX-5T is the first Sony E-mount camera with NFC, which is designed to allow one-touch wireless communication with Android system smartphones and tablets.
This should allow the user to transfer images between devices and control the camera’s shutter using a smartphone, for example.
The NEX-5T will be available in black or white body colours.
Sony has also today unveiled the Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar T* 16-70mm f/4 ZA OSS E-mount lens.
It is designed to deliver the 35mm viewing angle equivalent of a 24-105mm zoom.
The 16-70mm, which includes Optical SteadyShot image stabilisation, will carry a pricetag of around £839 when it goes on sale next month.
Sony announced its first G-lens for E-mount cameras earlier today.
