The public can snap up original work by legendary photographer Brassaï when his precious £1.7m archive goes on sale in October – with some prints valued at under £200.
Estimated to be worth up to ?2.5m the 550 pictures on sale come from the estate of Brassaï?s widow, who died last year.
The treasures include his most famous works, as vintage prints and larger prints that were made for exhibitions between 1955 and 1960.
?These outstanding photographs have seldom appeared on the market,? said a spokesman for Paris-based auctioneers Millon & Associés. ?With their impeccable provenance they are sure to appeal to collectors around the globe.?
Born Gyula Halasz in Transylvania in 1899, Brassaï adopted the pseudonym from his hometown of ?Brasso? in 1932. He died in 1984.
The sale represents most of the pictures in Brassai?s estate, with some remaining in family hands.
The auction – called The Eye of Paris ? takes place on 2 and 3 October at Drouot Montaigne, 15 Avenue Montaigne, 75008, Paris, France. For details call +33 (0) 1 48 00 20 80. The images can be viewed from 28 September-1 October (11am-6pm).
