The British photographer who beat 6,000 entries to win this year?s Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize uses traditional film, as she prefers its ?quality and depth?.
London-born photographer Jooney Woodward, 32, last night won the £12,000 award with a portrait of 13-year-old Harriet Power and her guinea pig ?Gentleman Jack?.
Woodward, who captured the photo at the Royal Welsh Show, said: ?The portrait was shot on film with a Mamiya RZ medium-format camera.?
She added: ?I prefer the quality and depth you get from using film – unfortunately, it?s a dying art. I don?t mess around with Photoshop, so what you see is what you get.’
The photographer claims that enhanced images ?portray a false sense of reality?.
The best images from the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2011 are on show at the National Portrait Gallery in London from tomorrow, until 12 February 2012. Entry costs £2.
