British photographer wounded in Afghanistan, Foreign Office confirms

British photographer Giles Duley has been injured in Afghanistan, the Foreign Office has confirmed.

‘We are aware that British national Giles Duley was injured in Kandahar on 7 February,’ a spokeswoman for the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) told Amateur Photographer this evening.

‘We are ready to offer consular assistance and support to the family.’

A report in the New York Times (NYT) suggests that the photographer was alongside US soldiers from the 1st Squadron, 75th Cavalry Regiment when he stepped on a makeshift bomb.

The FCO was not prepared to provide details of the photographer’s injuries but the NYT reports that Giles has undergone ‘multiple amputations’.

The London-born photographer spent 10 years as an editorial photographer in the fashion and music industries before focusing on humanitarian projects.

Last year he won honours in the Prix de la Photographie Paris competition.

Writing on his Facebook page last month, Giles told friends he would be travelling for at least three months.

Giles’ work has been published in magazines such as Vogue and Rolling Stone, and the Sunday Times.
