Digital camera sales rose 9% in the three months to 30 June compared to the same period last year, confirms Panasonic brand owner Matsushita.

Consolidated sales of digital cameras climbed to ¥65billion.

The figures include cameras that Matsushita Electrical Co Ltd makes for third parties, as well as Panasonic-branded models, according to a Panasonic UK spokeswoman.

Boosted by these ?favourable sales?, overall sales of the group?s Digital AVC Networks ? which includes flat-panel TVs and DVD recorders – increased 5% to ¥975.5billion, according to financial statements released this week.

The group?s net profit shot up 86% to ¥73billion. This was despite the ?negative effects of intensified global price competition and a stronger Yen against the US dollar, as well as rising prices for crude oil and other raw materials?, adds the firm.
