Pentax has admitted that it has been forced to increase the price of its Optio P70 compact camera just three days after it was unveiled, owing to ?currency fluctuations?.
The move comes in the week that Canon and Nikon also announced price rises on the back of the falling value of the euro against the Japanese yen.
Showcased at this week?s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the Optio P70 is a 12-million-pixel model with a 2.7in LCD screen and triple anti-shake protection.
At the time Pentax told journalists that the camera would cost £149.99. However, the firm later issued a statement announcing a new price of £179.99.
Our initial reaction was that the original price may have been a misprint. But a UK spokesman told us today: ?Pentax can confirm the price increase is due to currency exchange fluctuations.?
