A drug charity founded by music legend Eric Clapton will miss out on proceeds from the sale of an historic Leica digital camera after the firm changed plans at the last minute.
Instead an organisation that campaigns for press freedom is set to benefit from the sale of the first Leica M8 ever made.
Expected to raise up to ?30,000 (around £24,000) the gem will go on sale at the Westlicht Photographica Auction in Vienna, Austria on 7 June.
Proceeds from the auction will be donated to Reporters Without Borders, a body which works to improve safety for journalists.
Leica had initially planned to donate cash from the sale to the Crossroads Center in the Caribbean, a drug and alcohol addiction recovery centre.
Clapton, who set up the centre in 1997, is described as a Leica camera ‘fanatic’.
