Around 5.2 million more digital still cameras are estimated to have been exported from Japan in 2006 than previously expected, forcing a radical revision of earlier figures, according to new data.
The news comes as figures for January-October 2006 reveal that SLR production in Japan rose by around 26% over the same period in 2005.
Japan?s Camera and Imaging Product Association (CIPA) estimates that more than 64 million digital cameras were exported from Japan last year, a 14.1% rise in volume over 2005 that ranks nearly 10% more than the organisation had previously predicted.
Most of the difference is made up by greater exports of digital compacts, according to a report in Japan Camera Trade News.
