A retired doctor who had never before used a digital camera has won a major prize in a nationwide travel competition with his brand new Nikon D70.

The contest was organised by Wanderlust magazine and The Independent newspaper.

?I was thrilled? said Aravind who took the winning picture during a cruise on the Yangzi River in China.

He heard he?d been shortlisted via a message on his answerphone when he arrived home after another sightseeing holiday, this time in India.
