Uncertainty continues to surround the planned launch of Pentax?s medium-format digital SLR following the company?s reluctance to comment on whether the camera is still going ahead.
It is not clear from Pentax?s latest management plan whether the 645 Digital – first mooted more than two years ago ? will form part of Pentax?s product line-up.
At the time of writing, Pentax?s UK office declined to comment after repeatedly being asked by AP to clarify the situation following press speculation last week. AP story 11 May
Meanwhile, a statement issued by Pentax?s Japanese HQ confirms plans to produce 1m digital SLRs per year by the 2009 financial year.
Sales are reported to have been forecast at 500,000 units this year.
We understand that Pentax sold 300,000 digital SLRs in the year to 31 March 2007.
The firm says it plans to introduce ?new entry-level, middle-class and upper-end models? to its DSLR line-up.
