Walter Hähnel, the founder and managing director of Hähnel Industries which supplies DSLR accessories including batteries and remote control units, has died.

In a statement the firm said Walter died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday 10 November. He was 71.

The company added: ‘Walter will be greatly missed by his family, friends and colleagues.

‘He will continue to be remembered through the growth and continued success of his company.’

Walter established the firm more than 50 years ago, as a movie equipment supplier based in Germany.

In 1975 Hähnel opened a base in Bandon, in County Cork, Ireland.

Hähnel supplies equipment to the UK, Ireland and the rest of Europe.
