An amateur photographer has triumphed in a competition run by organisers of the Euro 2008 football tournament.
Jan Kostal from the Czech Republic clinched top spot in the Canon Fan Foto contest which was run on the UEFA Euro 2008 website.
Entitled ?Muddy Playground, Bangladesh?, the winning image bagged Jan a Canon 450D digital SLR, plus ?coaching? from a professional sports photographer at a Euro 2008 football match.
Backed by Canon and Getty Images the competition challenged entrants to ?capture the emotions of football from the perspective of the football fan?.
Steve Rose, director of Photography, Sport at Getty Images said: ?Jan Kostal?s winning image shows an excellent use of light and composition and is one which stood out from the crowd. More importantly, it highlights that football is truly a global sport that can be played and enjoyed anywhere.?
The competition helped raise ?40,000 for the Red Cross.
