A 12-million-pixel compact camera called the FinePix F200EXR is the first to feature Fujifilm?s Super CCD EXR sensor.

The FinePix F200EXR is due out later this month at a price yet to be announced.

It sports a lens designed to deliver the 35mm viewing angle equivalent of a 28-140mm lens.

Super CCD EXR (the ?EXR? stands for ?extreme?) is an evolution of Fujifilm?s innovative ?Super CCD? sensor technology.

When first announced at last year?s Photokina Fujifilm claimed Super CCD EXR would overcome the main problems that can affect small, high-resolution sensors.

Typically, small sensors offer a narrower dynamic range, and produce higher noise levels than larger format alternatives.

The Super CCD EXR achieves its higher performance by breaking from the bayer-pattern ?norm?, according to Fujifilm.

The sensor carries a maximum ISO sensitivity of ?12,800? (at 3MP resolution).

Like technology on board previous generation Super CCD SR cameras, Super CCD EXR promises a wider dynamic range than normal, by dividing the full 12 million pixels into two interlacing patterns of 6 million, with each array set to a different sensitivity.
