A Canon EOS 1D Mark II digital SLR was used to capture the winning shot in the first round of a photography competition hosted by the British Deer Society.

Graeme Purdy from London triumphed in the first quarter of the open category with an image entitled ?Fur Flying?.

He told organisers that he used a 300mm lens with a 1.4x converter.

In second place was Dave Thomas, who used a Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II.

Each photographer has a chance of winning the top prize of an EOS 400D digital SLR kit.

The overall title will go to the photographer who scores the highest number of points throughout the year.
