Fuji has today unveiled the FinePix S5 Pro digital SLR – the successor to the S3 Pro, production of which ended earlier this year.

Due out in February 2007, improvements over the S3 Pro include a revamped Super CCD SR II imaging sensor. Called the ?Super CCD SR Pro? the sensor includes an ?optimised? low-pass filter to ?reduce noise and minimise moiré?, according to Fuji.

The S5 also includes a newly developed image processor named ?Real Photo (RP) Processor Pro? which features two cycles of noise reduction designed to enable photographers to capture images at higher ISO sensitivities (ISO 100-3200) with ?visibly reduced noise?. The RP Processor Pro combines with the sensor to deliver ?greater dynamic range with smoother tonality from highlight to shadow,? according to the company.

The S5 also allows photographers greater control over dynamic range, according to Fuji. Users can choose from up to six preset ranges from 100-400%. ?For improved reproduction of natural skin tones, three new variations of the original film simulation mode have been added,? adds the company.

Users will also be able to record JPEG and RAW files simultaneously to memory cards.

Like its predecessors the S5 uses a Nikon-F lens mount.

Fuji also claims that the S5 achieves a total effective resolution of 12.34-million-pixels using 6.17m pairs of S and R photodiodes.

In a statement Fuji says: ?With its predecessor achieving recognition for its excellent ergonomics, the FinePix S5 Pro will take the system into a different league, using a tough, professional magnesium alloy shell.?

Fuji is also developing Face Detection Technology for the camera. ?With one press of a button, the camera detects up to ten faces almost instantly after each image is captured. After shooting and during playback the photographer can easily and quickly zoom in and check facial details such as closed eyes, focus and exposure on the LCD monitor,? adds the statement.
