Google denies that it plans to launch unmanned, camera-equipped aircraft in a bid to bolster its Street View coverage.
The search engine giant today blasted press coverage of claims made by business magazine WirtschaftsWoche.
The publication had reported that German drone maker Microdrones has already supplied a ?mini drone? to Google, for aerial photography.
This led to a string of media reports including an article that appeared on the Daily Mail website, which has since been removed.
The Daily Mail had reported that Google was ‘trialling mini drones to add aerial pictures to Street View’.
The paper added: ‘The news will spark fears that Google may be planning to use the drones to add an even more intrusive overhead view to its Street View application.’
Google UK’s public affairs manager Laura Scott told Amateur Photographer: ‘The entire article was removed because it was completely factually inaccurate and is totally untrue…’
Google said in a statement: ‘Google is not testing or using this technology. This was a purchase by a Google executive with an interest in robotics for personal use.’
