A camera that can be launched into enemy territory, to provide life-saving surveillance, could be ready for use by British troops within two years, Amateur Photographer has learnt.
Unveiled earlier this month, the ?I-Ball? is a wireless camera designed to deliver 360º panoramic images, in still and moving format.
It could be fired from a grenade launcher or thrown into a room by troops to relay vital information about who, or what, is on the ground, according to the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
The device is the brainchild of Edinburgh-based firm Dreampact Ltd.
The firm?s spokesman Paul Thompson told us: ?We have a working prototype that has proved the concept and now we?re looking at ways to take it into production.?
He added: ?But, it?s about two years away from being available to troops.?
An MoD spokesman said: ?If successful the I-Ball could provide a tool for troops to see into areas of the battlefield before they have to risk their lives.?
