Harman Technology Limited explained that the theme of the competition this year, ‘Pride & Prejudice’, means ‘a reflection on the world today’.

In a statement, the firm said that judges will be looking for images that are technically excellent, provoke an emotional response and exhibit an understanding of the brief.

The brief, which can be viewed here, instructs entrants to ‘be inspired by the world around us… Draw inspiration from nature, lifestyle, art, music and culture.’

The competition is divided into two categories. The first, ‘Darkroom’, requires a darkroom print from a negative on Ilford or Kentmere b&w film, using Ilford or Kentmere papers.

Category two, ‘Digital’, is for digital captures printed on Harman Crystaljet Elite RC Inkjet paper, minimum size A4.

Two winners, one in each category, will win the title of Harman/Ilford Student Photographer of the Year 2013, have their winning image professionally printed and framed and receive £150 worth of products from www.harmanexpress.com

Entires are open until January 31, 2014. For more details, visit www.harmantechnology.com.
