The French photographer’s Facebook page
A European Pressphoto Agency (EPA) photographer who was critically injured while covering the protests in Tunisia has been declared clinically dead, though his heart is still beating, according to an agency source.
Lucas Mebrouk Dolega, 32, is understood to have been struck by a police teargas canister on Friday afternoon following the ousting of Tunisian President Ben Ali.
But yesterday confusion surrounded the fate of the photographer – who lives in Paris and is known to be dedicated to his job – as media reports declared him dead.
Speaking this morning to Amateur Photographer (AP), an EPA source said: ?His heart is still beating though doctors have declared him clinically dead.?
The source, who did not wish to be named, added: ?We still cling onto a glimmer of hope.?
AP understands that the canister hit the left side of the photographer?s head and that the family are keen to bring Lucas back home to France.
