Jessops: VAT timing ‘awful’, report claims

High street photographic retailer Jessops has reportedly expressed concern about a potentially negative impact on sales caused by the delay in the cut to VAT, ahead of a vital pre-Christmas trading weekend.

Earlier this week the government announced a 2.5% reduction to VAT.

But the new 15% rate will not come into force until Monday 1 December.

Chairman David Adams is said to be worried that the delay will mean lost sales over the coming weekend. He told Retail Week: ?The time delay is awful. This weekend we may have to do something special.?

David Adams (pictured below) was away and not available for comment when Amateur Photographer contacted Jessops head office today.

The store said that no-one else was willing to comment on such matters.
