An amateur photographer from London has beaten professionals to win the DK Eyewitness Travel PhotoBritain Competition, with a photo he captured shortly after being made redundant.

Frame Muller’s photo of Leeds Castle in Kent beat around 8,000 other entries to win a £1,500 holiday, plus books and vouchers.

‘The photograph was taken in late February. It was the first clear day with blue skies in weeks, after a bleak UK winter,’ said Frame.

‘I was reluctantly dragged from the creature comforts of my flat and sofa to escape London and go for an afternoon excursion to the country.’

Frame’s winning image will be published on the cover of the DK Eyewitness Great Britain Guide 2010.
