Kodak has moved to reassure UK customers that it will continue to honour warranties after the US-based firm announced it was pulling out of the camera business.
A Kodak UK spokesperson told Amateur Photographer: ‘Kodak will work closely with its retail partners to ensure an orderly transition for the benefit of consumers, continuing to honour all warranties, and providing technical support and service for its cameras, pocket video cameras and frames.’
She added: ?As this is a worldwide exit, we will provide some flexibility to our retail partners to make an orderly transition over a period of several months, but we will continue to narrow our participation in this time frame.
‘The process should be largely completed by the end of 2012.?
There is, as yet, no word on how the restructure will affect UK staff.
Eastman Kodak announced last month that it plans to phase out production of digital cameras, pocket video cameras and digital pictures frames to save $100 million a year.
The company says it is seeking ‘licensees for cameras’.
In a statement the firm said it plans to stop output in the first half of 2012, and will instead focus on its brand licensing program, retail photo printing and desktop inkjet printing.
Kodak, which filed for bankruptcy protection in January, will continue to operate its retail-based photo kiosks and Kodak Gallery – a service that allows people to share their images.
It says it will continue to make consumer inkjet printers and supply products for photobooks, photo greeting cards and calendars.
