Leica nearly doubled its sales in the six months to 30 September, boosted by demand for cameras including the M9 and S2.

?The Leica X1 compact camera? and the Leica V-Lux 20 compact travel camera also significantly contributed?, ? said a Leica spokesman.

Leica?s sales revenue rose to Euros 110.8m, from Euros 59.5m for the same period the year before.

Sales of cameras, lenses and accessories shot up from Euros 36.6m to Euros 87.7m.

Leica chairman Alfred Schopf said Leica notched up ?record? orders at the Photokina trade show which was held in Cologne, Germany in September.

?We have recruited more than 30 new employees in manufacturing and are working at full speed to reduce the order backlog as quickly as possible,? he added.
