A photographer from Staffordshire has won a competition organised to honour the late Lord Lichfield.

Alan Wilkes, a professional from Tamworth, beat more than 400 entries to bag the top prize of an Olympus E-400 digital SLR with his image entitled ?Dandelion Days?.

Organised by The Shugborough Estate, Lord Lichfield?s ancestral home in Staffordshire, the competition challenged entrants to visit the estate to capture their own memorable images.

Lord Lichfield, who was a cousin to the Queen, died in 2005.

Judges included renowned landscape photographer Charlie Waite, who said: ?There is a pastoral look to the image, which incorporates many elements. The house is understated yet it is still striking and acts as an anchor to the shot.?

Shugborough?s group manager Liz Carruthers added: ?We have been overwhelmed by the response from both amateur and professional photographers and by the high quality of image submitted.

?I?m sure Lord Lichfield would have been proud that so many wished to honour his works by creating their own unique pieces within the grounds of his much-loved home.?
