Imaging experts at Interpol are using digital enhancement software and facial recognition technology to help establish whether a tourist?s blurry snapshot is the missing Madeleine McCann.
The photograph, captured in northern Morocco using a digital camera, appears to show a blonde-haired girl looking over the shoulder of a Moroccan woman.
The image is understood to have been captured on 31 August by Spanish tourist Clara Torres.
An uncropped version of the picture shows that she took it from inside a vehicle, some distance away.
The snapshot was handed to the British Embassy and published last night on the website of Spanish radio station COPE (pictured).
Torres did nothing with the picture until this Monday when she heard news reports of possible sightings of the four-year-old in Morocco.
She told journalists: ?I ran to the computer, downloaded the photos and started to amplify the photo and when we saw it we realised yes, it could be her. It sent shiver down my spine.?
Torres then emailed the image to Spanish Police in Albacete.
