DJI CEO Frank Wang claimed: ’With the Phantom 4, we are entering an era where even beginners can fly with confidence.’

He added. ‘People have dreamed about one day having a drone collaborate creatively with them. That day has arrived.’

A pair of forward-facing optical sensors scan for obstacles and ‘automatically direct the aircraft around the impediment when possible, reducing risk of collision, while ensuring flight direction remains constant’, according to DJI.

New features include a Sport mode that enables the £1,229, 4K quadcopter to fly at 45 miles per hour, and ascend and descend more quickly than in other modes.

A function called TapFly aims to allow users to calculate the optimal flight route while avoiding obstructions.

The Phantom 4 also features ActiveTrack, enabling operators to use a smartphone or tablet to keep the drone’s camera centred on the subject as it moves, by tapping the subject when using the DJI Go app.

Trumpeted improvements also include an extension of the drone’s flight-time battery life to 28 minutes.
