A British train driver is celebrating after winning an international photo competition with a snowy scene captured using a Nikon D200 DSLR.

Stephen Gorman, who is based in Edinburgh, won the Arriva Photo of the Year 2011 competition for his picture of a passenger train near Ballencrieff.

The 44-year-old, who lives in East Lothian, said: ?I can remember that day was very cold and I was standing in a foot and a half of snow to get the photo.?

Stephen beat hundreds of entries to bag prizes worth £675 in a contest open to all 47,500 Arriva employees in 12 countries.

Arriva chief executive David Martin said: ?The standard of photography that the competition attracts is extremely high.

‘Stephen?s image is a very worthy winner and is testament to his photographic tenacity.?
