November is due to see the launch of four new Summarit-M lenses from Leica, all featuring a maximum aperture of f/2.5.

Though prices have not yet been released Leica has stated that they will deliver a ‘superb price/performance ratio’.

The new lenses are: the Leica Summarit-M 35mm f/2.5; Summarit-M 50mm f/2.5; Summarit-M 75mm f/2.5; and Summarit-M 90mm f/2.5.

The news marks the start of a campaign by Leica to ?put a greater focus on its core competitiveness in optics manufacture?, according to a statement on Leica?s USA website.

It adds: ?The launch of the Leica Summarit-M family of lenses marks the return of important Leica heritage elements. All letter and number engravings are made with the traditional ?Leitz-Norm? font as originally used by Leitz Wetzlar during the 1960s and the red button on the lens mount is now true to the original colour used on Leitz lenses produced since the introduction of the M-mount through the 1960s.?

The lenses are due to be delivered to stores in the United States from the end of November, though there was no word on UK availability when we contacted Leica’s UK office this morning (Monday).
