A UK photographer narrowly missed out on winning this year?s Deutsche Börse photography prize which was awarded to Finnish photographer Esko Männikkö.
John Davies from the UK was one of the four shortlisted photographers, who each won £3,000.
The top prize of £30,000 is awarded to the photographer deemed to have made a significant contribution to photography over the past year.
Männikkö won for his retrospective ‘Cocktails 1990-2007’ which was shown in Stockholm, Sweden last year.
?Esko Männikkö?s pictorial risk-taking, combined with his poetic approach to dealing with universal issues such as alienation and identity, greatly impressed the 2008 jury,? said Brett Rogers, director of The Photographers? Gallery and chair of the judging panel.
