The photographer accused of digitally manipulating images he sent to the New York Times has spoken for the first time since the newspaper pulled his pictures from its website.
Edgar Martins, who is travelling, is expected to release a full statement on the matter in the next few days.
However, in the meantime, the UK-based photographer told Amateur Photographer: ‘I would simply like to say that I anticipated this discussion, though not in its present format. I think the conversation merely needs to be refocused.’
As we reported yesterday, the New York Times removed photos from its website after one of its readers alerted publishers to an image he felt had been digitally altered.
The images appeared in the New York Times Magazine and online.
Martins, who is from Portugal, has exhibited worldwide and was last year the subject of a cover story feature in a leading British photo magazine which described him as one of the world’s most sought-after photographers.
