A photographer was told she needed council permission to take pictures on a Dorset beach, even though she had been taking similar shots for years without any trouble.

Hattie Miles, a photographer for the Bournemouth Echo, was told by a beach security guard she needed a licence before taking pictures for commercial purposes because the beach, at Branksome Chine, is council-owned.
Poole Council?s coastal works manager Stuart Terry later told the newspaper that the rule exists to protect the ?safety and enjoyment? of other beach users.
Though the regulation applies to professional photographers and film-makers, the paper published a photo of what it described as a ?tourist? being approached by the guard, who only identified himself as ‘Beach 8’.
The tourist appeared to be armed with a compact camera and was sat on the promenade.

AP is seeking comment from Stuart Terry, but he was not available at the time of writing.
