The photographer stopped last month while taking pictures of locomotives at an oil depot said he has since been told by police that the incident was ‘regrettable’.
Police said Stephen White had been seen acting suspiciously near the oil refinery at Milford Haven, later telling him that West Wales is a ‘hotbed for terrorism’.
White said that a ‘senior officer’ visited him on 18 September, confirming that police have 28 days to respond to his official complaint.
White told Amateur Photographer: ‘The meeting lasted three and a half hours and he [the officer] opened with the comment: “This has been a regrettable incident”‘.
During the meeting White said police told him that taking photographs near the oil refinery was a ‘suspicious activity’.
But police refused to say whether the location was within an area authorised for Stop and Search under Section 44 of the Terrorism Act.
Dyfed Powis Police had yet to respond to our request for comment at the time of writing.
However, a spokeswoman said it was unlikely police would comment further while their investigation into the complaint is ongoing.
