Newspaper photographers have hit out at a ban reportedly placed upon them by Southampton Football Club.

Ian Murray, editor of the Southern Daily Echo, told HoldtheFrontPage.co.uk: ?We are disappointed that when the club lifted their complete photographic ban on all other media, including national newspapers and agency photographers, they failed to do so for us.?

During the summer a move by the club, limiting access to its own photographers, backfired.

One newspaper had resorted to using a Roy of the Rovers-style cartoon after photographers were shut out of home games.

Southampton Football Club?s press accreditation department had yet to respond to our request for comment at the time of writing.

Murray added that the club has been given no explanation for its actions.
