British soldiers in Afghanistan will be able to send pictures back home for Christmas thanks to a photographer who has pledged to donate the Canon camera he won as a prize.
Lee Jeffries won the Canon PowerShot SX1 IS in round nine of Amateur Photographer of the Year (APOY), an annual contest organised by UK magazine Amateur Photographer (AP).
Lee, who lives in Bolton, Lancashire said: ‘The reason for doing this is so the guys out there have the facility to perhaps send an image or a video back home to their families in time for Christmas. We can’t bring them home but I guess we can certainly do our bit to help make it easier all round.’
Worth around £590 the Canon PowerShot SX1 IS is credited as a ‘great all-rounder’, boasting a 20x zoom and a continuous shooting rate of up to four frames per second.
The Canon camera also features full High Definition movie recording, face detection and anti-blur technology.
Lee’s winning picture was featured in AP’s 28 November 2009 issue (page 35).
