The Photographers? Gallery in London is poised to move to its new home in Ramillies Street, a short walk from Oxford Circus underground station.

On 16 November the gallery will close its current base in Great Newport Street, near Leicester Square – its home for the past 37 years.

The new address ? due to open on 6 December ? will feature exhibitions, a bookshop, prints sales and a café. It will also serve as a venue for talks and events.

?We have simply outgrown our current premises,? said the gallery?s director Brett Rogers.

He added that the ?public?s appetite for exhibitions? is one of the reasons for the move.

The gallery (pictured) will be located at 16-18 Ramillies Street, London W1. It will open Tues, Weds, Sat and Sun 11am-6pm; Thurs and Fri 11am-8pm. Entry will be free. For details call 0845 262 1618 or visit www.photonet.org.uk

Meanwhile, Rogers is campaigning for a new, larger gallery in London to open in 2011. Rogers said that the plans – announced last year – will include ?more ambitious exhibitions and an education programme?.
