A photographer?s portraits of a teenager who joined the US Army at the height of insurgent violence in Iraq has won the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography.

The $10,000 prize was awarded to Craig Walker who works for the Denver Post.

Walker?s previous work includes images depicting the aftermath of the collapse of the World Trade Center towers in New York in 2001, and the war in Afghanistan.

He began his career as a photojournalist at the Marlborough Enterprise, joining the Denver Post in 1998.

Meanwhile the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography was awarded to Mary Chind, a photographer for Iowa-based newspaper The Des Moines Register.
