Photography legend David Bailey has been drafted in to help judge a new photo competition which has been launched by The Guardian newspaper?s Weekend magazine.

Open to amateurs and professionals the contest boasts a top prize of £5,000 plus a photoshoot for the magazine, pictures from which will be published in May.

The competition features three categories: portrait; reportage; and fashion.

Two runners-up will each bag £1,500, while all three winners will receive a Windows XP Media Centre Edition PC.

Joining Bailey on the judging panel will be fashion photographer Nick Knight and Magnum photographer Philip Jones Griffiths.

The closing date is 1 March 2006 and winners details will be announced on 6 April.

The three winning pictures and 25 commended entries will go on show from 7-20 April at Proud Gallery in central London. Others will go on display in the Guardian?s online gallery.
