Police chief admits camera confiscation was an ‘error’

The confiscation of cameras from people gathered to see the Royal Family visit church in Sandringham was an ‘error’, admit police.

A Norfolk Police spokesman today confirmed to Amateur Photographer that it was wrong for an officer to demand members of the public hand over their cameras on 27 December.

Signs on the Sandringham Estate reportedly warn people not to take photos.

However, the police spokesman said people should have been allowed to keep their cameras in accordance with a ‘longstanding agreement’.

Before Christmas, the Queen warned newspapers not to publish ‘private’ pictures of the Royal family, even those taken from public land.
