Police are understood to be investigating the widely reported attack on a British photographer by the wife of Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe.

Richard Jones was left with cuts and bruises to his face after Grace Mugabe beat and punched him repeatedly while on a shopping trip in Hong Kong, according to The Sunday Times.

Police officers are understood to be poring over CCTV footage of the alleged incident.

Jones, who works for Hong Kong-based news agency Sinopix, was on assignment for the newspaper when Grace Mugabe ?flew into a fit of rage? last Thursday, according to reports.

The incident apparently occurred as she left a luxury hotel where she had been staying with her husband, President Robert Mugabe.

According to the paper, she first ordered her bodyguard to attack the photographer before joining in the assault herself.

The guard tried to grab Jones? camera. ?I saw her charging towards me in a rage,? said Jones.

?As soon as she arrived she started trying to get my camera too. I wouldn?t let go. He held me and she just started aiming punches into my face.?
