Guardian Eyewitness appPhotographers are set to give a professional insight into areas such as composition as part of a software application for the Apple iPad.

Launched by the Guardian newspaper – and backed by camera maker Canon – the photography application will showcase images that appear as a centre-spread in the Eyewitness section of the Guardian.

The app will display the most recent 100 Eyewitness images and be accompanied by a ?pro tip?.

This aims to give users a professional insight into areas such as composition or technical specification of a particular image.

Each Eyewitness picture will be accompanied by a few words written by the Guardian?s photographic teams, said the newspaper?s Head of Photography Roger Tooth.

He added: ?We hope Pro Tips will give users an insight into the creation of great photography.

?Guardian Eyewitness is a daily showcase of some of the world?s best news and features photography, and each day the app will display a new image in a brilliant, large, electronic format.?

The iPad, which has just gone on sale in the United States, boasts a 9.7in LED-backlit touch screen and is billed by Apple as the best way to experience the web, email, photos and video.

The Apple iPad is due for UK release soon.
