Samsung’s digital camera division appears to have ruled out the possibility of it taking over another company to boost business, according to an unconfirmed press report. Instead, Samsung Digital Imaging plans to bolster its existing digital SLR development partnership with Pentax, according to a report in The Korea Times.

‘Amid the global recession the time is not ripe to push an M&A (mergers and acquisitions) deal,’ Samsung Digital Imaging’s chief executive Park Sang-jin told the newspaper.

He added: ‘Samsung Digital Imaging has made much progress in the development of lens and image processing chips, independently.’

In the article, published earlier today, he also revealed: ‘Further details of the Samsung-Pentax partnership in the digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera category will be unveiled soon.’

At the time of writing, we were awaiting comment from Samsung’s UK office.

Pentax UK declined to comment.
