The Society provides financial support to retired seafarers and those who have been rendered unable to work at sea by injury or illness.
Competition entrants are invited to send in photographs of what they believe best encapsulates Britain’s coast, seafarers and the sea.
This, the Society says, can encompass wildlife, seascapes, working fishermen and mariners – ‘anything which shows and celebrates our intimate connection with, and reliance on, the sea and seafarers’.
The prize will be a five-day return crossing from Dover to Calais, donated by P&O Ferries.
Shipwrecked Mariners’ Society chief executive, Malcolm Williams, said: ‘We have already seen a great number of entries of a very high standard. With the UK’s reliance and connection with the sea being so broad, it’s going to be a very tough one to judge!’
